Advice, day centre
and hostel services
Emergency
If you are homeless or about to become homeless in London, the best thing to do is to get advice as soon as possible. The following services can help in an emergency:
Council Homelessness Advice
Each local council has a housing department with a team that gives advice to those who are homeless or are in housing need. Councils have a duty to give advice to homeless people, and they have a duty to provide housing or other support to some homeless people who are in "priority need" of housing. All councils should have an out of hours telephone number for people in emergency situations.
To find a team who can help you, select Search all services. Select Housing department from the Services drop down and the borough from the Area drop down.
Day centres
Day centres provide homeless people and rough sleepers with shelter during the day, and advice, food, showers, laundry and other services.
To find a day centre, click on Search all services, select Day centre from the Services drop down, and Homeless people from the Person drop down.
Street Outreach Teams
If you want to get help for someone sleeping rough, street outreach teams can give immediate help eg accessing emergency accommodation and support.
