Homeless London: What services are not included?

The following types of services are not specifically for homeless people and are beyond the scope of Homeless London:

Accommodation

  • Private hostels, bed and breakfast or other privately-run accommodation
  • Hostels for students and back packers
  • Sheltered housing and other accommodation for older people. Visit the HousingCare website for details of these schemes.
  • Care Homes and Nursing homes for older people - visit the HousingCare website for further details of these schemes.
  • Projects for people with learning difficulties or physical disabilities. Visit Supporting People Directory for details of these schemes.
  • Probation and bail hostels (as these are approved premises with conditions of residency and are for people on bail, probation or licence only).

Non-residential services

eg advice sevices

  • Small services that are only open a couple of hours a week (unless working directly with homeless people)
  • Specialist services on particular health problems (eg cancer organisations) or disabilities (eg organizations for deaf or blind people)
  • Day centre services for older people, and people with learning difficulties or physical disabilities
  • Local Victim Support services. Visit the Victim Support website for details of these schemes.
  • Services for carers and Crossroads Care schemes
  • Small self help groups (unless they provide substantial advice or other services relevant to homeless people) and groups operating from volunteers’ home addresses
  • Community centres (unless they provide substantial advice or other services relevant to homeless people)
  • Second tier organisations that provide services to other agencies (unless of direct relevance to homelessness organisations)
  • Colleges, schools and other mainstream education services
  • Hospitals, GPs and other mainstream health and mental health services
  • Police stations

  • Commercial services or businesses
  • Leisure or sports organisations
  • Libraries
  • Political parties and Trade Unions
  • Environmental and animal welfare organisations
